Dear Brother Keith,
We wanted to share with you a recent testimony of an event that happened
in Paraguay, while we were in the States in June. This testimony is centered
around two families that attend our church.
If you recall, we have a volunteer fireman that attends our church named
Raul. His sister Marí Báez and family are very active in the church also,
and this is the testimony that she shared with us. To begin, it is important
to mention that Marí was present the evening that you, Andy and the firemen
presented the basic first aid class to our congregation.
Two or three weeks ago Andrea, a 9-year old handicapped girl, forced a large
piece of bread into her mouth and tried to eat it rapidly because she wanted
to eat something different that her mother was fixing. As you would guess,
the hunk of bread lodged in her throat and she could not breathe. Andrea
began to turn blue as her mother and older brother tried to dislodge the
bread by pounding on her chest and on her back.
Marí, who lives next door, heard their screamed prayers for God’s help
and rushed over to see what was happening. On seeing the situation, Marí
quickly grabbed Andrea from behind, placed her hands like you had shown, and
proceeded to apply pressure. She said it took two good thrusts before the
bread dislodged and Andrea could once again breathe freely.
Marí thanked God for your timely instruction and that of her brother also.
She thanked God that she was home to hear the cries for help. Juliana,
Andrea’s mother, and the family are so thankful that God was present with
them that day, and, that you had taken the time to show our church how to
act in an emergency.
We too are thankful, the passing of little Andrea would have caused us much
sorrow and we would have been too far away to help.
We as a church thank you, keep up the good work!
With love, your Paraguayan family,
